Man is indeed a moral Being

Man is indeed a moral Being: man was created with a free-will, that is, the ability to make choices. With this moral attribute makes man a responsible creature among all the creations of God.  This is a great privilege for man. Angelic hosts were created by God with free will and power of choice and in the same way, man has the power of choice. Man cannot be likened to a robot or machine or a will-less creature. God in His supernatural wisdom desires that man responds to Him freely and willingly and this is the basis of man having a free will.

However, man’s will is ‘weakened’ because of the fall in the Garden of Eden. Therefore Scripture is replete with several statements that appeal to man’s will to positively respond to the will of God. “If any man will do His will, He shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself” (John 7:17). Also read Hebrews 3:7, 8, 15; 4:7; John 1:12, 13. This is the secret- though the will of man is subject to sin because of the fall in the Garden of Eden, man has the ability to respond to the awesome influence of the Holy Ghost and have dominion over sin and its influences and consequences.

Man has conscience which translates into a moral sense therefore giving man the ability to distinguish right from wrong. Conscience is a faculty that animals do not possess. However, conscience alone is not a perfect moral standard because of what happened in the Garden of Eden. The correct standard for conscience is the word of God. To distinguish right from wrong requires knowledge of God’s word and the strength of the Holy Spirit. There are many people in this world who know that some things are wrong but yet indulge in these things resulting in detrimental effects. These people find it difficult to stop doing these wrong things even though they desire to stop. It only takes the power of God’s word and the Holy Spirit to give us the urge over the wrong things that we indulge in.

Although man is indeed a moral Being, morality alone cannot justify man and give him a fulfilled life. It takes the word of God and the strength of the Holy Spirit to grant man a fulfilled life on this earth and beyond.
