The nature of Angels
The nature of Angels is another important doctrine for the child of God. The nature of an element basically deals with the analysis or description or characteristics of that element. The nature of Angels are discussed as follows:
Angels are created elements (Psalm 148:2,5; Colossians 1:16; Revelation 4:11). God created Angels for His pleasure. Angels own their existence to God and therefore are finite, limited and dependent on God. They have eternal life but this life has comes from God. However, they are not eternal or self-existent. It is not stated clearly in scripture when Angels were created but scripture suggest that they were created during creation of the whole universe (Job 38:4-7).
Angels are spirits (Hebrews 1:13-14; 12:22-23; Psalm 104:4; Colossians 1:16). Angels are ministering spirits. They are not limited to the physical or material realm as is the case of man (Luke 24:39). However, Angels are not omnipresent as God. Sometimes, Angels under the power of God assume human form and perform human acts (Psalm 78:25; Genesis 18:8; 19:3). They are also invisible to the human eye (Colossians 1:16).
Angels are immortal (Luke 20:34-36; 1 Timothy 6:16). That is, they don’t have physical bodies. Angels derive their immortal from God Almighty. They are not subject to physical death like man.
Angels are a company of elements (Luke 20:34-35; Matthew 22:30; Hebrews 2:16). Angels are not a race, that is, they do not marry and are not able to reproduce their kind as is the case of humans. Angels are spoken of as having masculine nature. With regards to Angels, sin is not transmitted as the case is regarding the human race where the sin of Adam was transferred to unborn offspring. Angels which sinned sinned as individuals.
Moreover, Angels are uncountable (Daniel 7:9-10; Luke 2:13; Psalm 148:2-6; Job 25:3; Psalm 68:17; Hebrews 12:22; 2 Kings 6:17; Revelation 5:11). God is the only person who knows their number.
Angels are freewill beings (Isaiah 14:12-14; 2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6,9) and they have the power of choice. They have the choice to follow God or to follow Satanic self-will.
Finally on the topic of nature of Angels, angels have personality (Matthew 18:10; Psalm 103: 20-21; Revelation 4:8). Angels have will, emotion and mind (intelligence).
