SERVICE LEADS TO GREATNESS
Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
The scripture above is one of the psalms of King David and it has a very profound meaning. King David was exposed to many adversities but surmounted these adversities and became a King of Israel. From experience, he made that statement in Psalm 37:25. What does it mean to be righteous and what are fruits of righteousness?
Righteousness means having a right standing with God. It also means, having a right relationship with God. In the Old Testament, before a person could become righteous, animal sacrifice(s) had to be done. The blood of animals covered the sins of man and therefore gave man the access to relate with God. Anytime a person sinned, animal(s) was/were sacrificed to pacify God. In fact, like the bible says, the Old Testaments was a shadow of things that happened in the New Testament. We are privileged that in our days as children of God, animal sacrifice(s) are no longer relevant because of the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross for the whole of humanity (Romans 5:19). This sacrifice was done once and for all of humanity. Anybody who confesses the lordship of Jesus Christ is automatically made righteous and has direct relationship with God. In fact, God comes to indwell man because the body of anyone who confesses the lordship of Jesus becomes a temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16). No more sacrifices of fat animals!
The outcomes of righteousness are what King David referred to as “bread”. Righteousness restores man to his former glory and even a better glory. Righteousness reveals the potential of man to discover more in this world. These discoveries are a source of blessing to the world and make the world a better place to live in. The world has enough resources to take care of everybody. If man discovers more resources (which already exist), greed will not be a major issue in the world.Service leads to greatness.
A righteous person is the light of the world and provides leadership for the world for advancement. Everybody should see himself/herself as a servant because it is through provision of services to people around you that you can become great and provide ‘bread’ instead of begging for ‘bread’. In the environment you live in, what are the challenges being faced by people? Provide solutions to these challenges and receive rewards. Service leads to greatness. Bill Gates is now being celebrated as one of the world’s richest people because of provision of services to solve some of the major problems of the world. If you want to be great, become a servant and the world will celebrate you!
