GOD’S WILL IS DYNAMIC

multitude

God’s will is dynamic therefore the need for us to be careful in our obedience to God in carrying out His instructions. The dynamic nature of God’s will determines whether a person will stick to the ‘process of the will’ or the ‘giver of the will’.

How do we know from scripture that God’s will is dynamic? When Moses was leading the people of Israel to the Promised Land, they got to the Desert of Zin and there was no water for the people to drink. The people were angry against Moses and Aaron. So Moses and Aaron enquired of the Lord on what to do and the Lord instructed Moses to speak to a rock and water will flow out for the people of Israel to drink. However, Moses struck the rock with his staff instead of speaking to the rock. Although water gushed out of the rock like it happened in the land of Horeb (Exodus 17:6), Moses was disallowed to enter the Promised Land. Here, we see the dynamic nature of the will of God which yielded the same end result. Unfortunately, Moses missed it because he focused more on the ‘process of the will’ rather than on the ‘giver of the will’.

Another case where the people of God followed the ‘process of the will’ rather than the ‘giver of the will’ was when they worshipped a bronze serpent instead of the Lord. Moses was instructed to make a bronze serpent that provided deliverance to anybody who was bitten by a snake in the wilderness around Edom. (Numbers 21:5-9; 2 Kings 18:4). This scenario also demonstrates that God’s will is dynamic.

Lack of obedience to the word of God may change God’s will. Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce to a woman and send her away. However, Jesus made it clear that that was not the situation in the beginning of time but it changed along the line because of disobedience of man (Mark 10:2-6).

Obedience can alter the will of God for a people. For instance, the Lord wanted to destroy Nineveh but when they changed their ways to what the Lord required, Nineveh was not destroyed. The positive change was possible because Jonah obeyed the Lord by sending the Lord’s word to Nineveh. Intercessory prayer can also alter the will of God for a people. Moses interceded for the people of Israel after they made a golden calf and worshiped it in the wilderness at a time when Moses was on the mountain waiting on God (Exodus 32:14).

From the preceding discussions, it becomes necessary to be intimate with the Holy Spirit so that at any point in time, we will be consistent with God’s will for our lives. God is a Father who ensures that His children live successful lives to His glory. Any time we miss the mark, we should be ready to quickly make amends and continue this interesting journey with the Holy Spirit.
