GET INVOLVED IN CHURCH MINISTRY
And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering. And this is the offering which ye shall take of them; gold and silver and brass…….And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them (Exodus 25:1-8).
Church ministry is very important in the body of Christ. Church ministry is simply defined as every work done in the church by church members to advance the development of the church and the gospel of Jesus Christ. It includes every single work done by individuals or groups in the church such as preaching of the pastor, cleaning of church, church administration, evangelism and many more. Most of the time church ministry and church work are used interchangeably. Usually, people involved in church work are not paid salary. To pay salaries to some church workers is usually discretionary. In most cases, salaries are paid to persons who work full time for the church. However, it is more of a ‘sacrifice’ to do church work in cases where salaries are not paid therefore results in some level of apathy in some church members. What should be our reaction towards church work and churches’ request for offerings from members? Show we get involved in church ministry?
From the scripture above, the Lord spoke to the children of Israel through Moses to bring offerings to build a sanctuary for the Lord. This was at a time when they had just exited from Egypt and were moving towards the Promised Land of God. One can easily presume that they did not have much possessions so why would God Almighty request expensive offerings from them. Anytime God asks us to do something for Him or anybody, we should not forget that it is because He knows we have the ability. We may not physically be in possession of what God is demanding but we should be confident that our faith can produce God’s request. In the case of the Israelites, they were in physical possession of the items that the Father was demanding because the Egyptians freely gave them ornaments to see them off.
An important point to learn here is that, anytime the church purposes to undertake projects such as doing massive evangelism to spread the Gospel, building a new sanctuary, buying a bus for the church etc., we should be convinced that all the resources needed for the project(s) are already available with individuals in the church. It may not be necessary for churches to raise funds by consulting other persons not part of the church. Every church has the capacity to generate funds from within and make progress for the Lord. This is possible when every member of a church accepts the conviction that they are fellow workers in the kingdom; giving and receiving is a law that works for everybody; and giving part of the ‘little’ we have is an opportunity to get blessed. We may all not be in the position to give cash donations to the church but we can give our time and skills to undertake some activities to benefit the church (1 Corinthians 12:28). Get involved in church ministry and you will be blessed!
