BIBLICAL BASIS WHY YOU MAY NOT NEED TO EAT ANIMAL FAT
Scientific research has a lot of information on types of fat and their effects on the human body. Plants and animals are the major sources of fat. Cholesterol is a type of fat and different types of cholesterol exist. Some cholesterols are beneficial to the body whilst others are harmful to the body. What does the bible say about animal fat (or cholesterol) and its consumption? In fact, you may not need to eat animal fat!!!
Fat is mentioned for the first time in the book of Genesis. “And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering” (Genesis 4:4). Prior to the action of Abel, bible did not state that animal sacrifice was a request from God. Abel and Cain had the same opportunity to sacrifice an offering unto God. However, Abel did the right sacrifice probably based on knowledge and revelation from God- he sacrificed part of his flock and fat unto God. The bible has answers to all the questions of man but sometimes, the answers are not explicitly stated but inferred through revelation from the Holy Spirit. It is our responsibility to always rely on the Holy Spirit to receive more knowledge on the information in the bible.
Another reason why you may not need to eat animal fat is that, several other verses in the Old Testament of the bible (Exodus 29:13, 22; Leviticus 1:8,12; Leviticus 3:3,4 etc.) talk about the use of fat for sacrifice unto the Lord and not for human consumption. “And the priest shall burn them (liver, kidney, caul above the kidney etc.) upon the altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire for a sweet savour: all the fat is the Lord’s” (Leviticus 3:16). The logical question to ask is that, if Jesus was sacrificed once and for all in the New Testament, can’t we now eat the portions of animals that were used as sacrifices in the Old Testament? Secondly, since all creatures of God are good and are sanctified for us to eat (1 Timothy 4:4-5), why do we have to advise against animal fat?
Finally, you may not need to eat animal fat because, Scripture says that “all things are lawful unto me but all things are not expedient….” (1 Corinthians 6:12). From the New Testament’s perspective, the bible does not ban us from eating animal fat or the inward parts of animals. We need to note that although these inward parts or fatty parts make delicious meals, they are also very high in cholesterol and one must be careful about them. We dare say that it is better not to eat these inward parts or fatty parts with high cholesterol! A lot of medical information exists on the bad impact of animal fat (Cholesterol) on the human body so our Father is right in telling the people of old to burn these as sacrifices unto Him. Our bodies are the temples of God and as such we need to keep our bodies healthy. We will be far from infirmities associated with high cholesterol. With healthy bodies, we will be able to serve God and the world very well. As we serve, we are rewarded.
