Cocoa certification steps in West Africa
Cocoa certification has become an important phenomenon in Cocoa producing countries in West Africa. Simply put, Cocoa certification involves farmers’ adherence to a set of standards (on Good Agricultural Practices; Good Environmental Practices; Good Social Practices) which are audited by a chosen Certification Body (CB). Cocoa certification steps in West Africa exist.
When a farmer or farmer group(s) complies with most of the standards after audit, a certificate is issued by the CB and the Cocoa is called “Certified Cocoa”. The Certified Cocoa earns additional premium for the farmer or farmer group(s).
